East Rutherford, NJ (Sports Network) - The New York Giants announced multiple
roster moves on Monday in order to trim their roster to 75 players, chief
among them placing defensive tackle Chris Canty on the physically unable to
perform list.
Canty, a Virginia product, totaled 47 tackles and four sacks in 16 games for
Big Blue in 2011. He is still recovering from offseason knee surgery, as is
tight end Travis Beckum, who was also placed on the PUP list.
Both players will miss at least the first six games of the upcoming season,
per NFL rules.
In addition, offensive lineman Brandon Mosley's season is over before it
begins, after New York's fourth-round pick in this year's draft was placed on
injured reserve thanks to an ankle issue.
Cornerback Antwaun Molden's contract has been terminated. Signed as a free
agent by the Giants in April, the Eastern Kentucky product picked up 36
tackles and two interceptions in 16 games for the Patriots last season.
The team also waived 11 players: tight end Ryan Purvis, defensive tackle
Carlton Powell and defensive back Chris Horton. Also waived were wide
receivers Julian Talley and Brandon Collins, tight end Christian Hopkins,
defensive backs Brandon Bing and Jojo Nicolas, running back Joe Martinek,
tackle Joel Reinders and defensive tackle Oren Wilson.
