(WZZM)- Every day 2,500 children abuse prescription pain killers for the first time. WZZM 13 is On Your Side to help you get ride of unwanted drugs in your home.
The Drug Enforcement Administration will hold a National Prescription Drug Take Back Day this Saturday. The DEA says the majority of teenagers who abuse prescription drugs get medication from their families.
"Unfortunately the fastest growing substance abuse problem in our society is the misuse, the non-medical use of prescription drugs. So this is a great opportunity for people to get those pills, get them out of the house and that way they don't have to worry about anybody getting their hands on those prescription medications for the wrong purposes," says Rich Isaacson, a special agent with the Drug Enforcement Administration.
National Prescription Drug Take Back Day runs from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday. Click here to find out where you can drop off your medications.
