Crews installing new funicular cars at John Ball Zoo.
GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM)-Saturday was the first full day visitors to the John Ball Zoo got to enjoy a new $5 million attraction.
After nearly two months of delays, the Funicular officially opened to the public Friday at noon. Saturday, people lined up for a ride on the three car cross lift, which is the first of its kind in the country.
"Grand Rapids is thriving and this is another one of those things children and adults [can enjoy]. I mean look, we have all adults here. It's just so exciting to know that there are things happening here," said Basudhaa Dasgupta, as she waited for her turn to ride the Funicular.
The Funicular takes visitors on a four minute trip from the zoo's main area up to the Idema Forest Realm, which provides a birds eye view of Grand Rapids. Tickets to ride the Funicular are $3 per person.
