(AP) - Governor Rick Snyder has ordered U.S. flags to be lowered at half-staff today to honor Marine Sgt. Justin M. Hansen of Traverse City.

Hansen died on July 24, 2012 in Northern Province of Badghis, Afghanistan province during his second tour in the country. He was a member of the Second Marine Special Operations Battalion, Special Operations Command.

Hansen enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 2005, and served in Japan and in Iraq prior to Afghanistan.

He was the recepient of a purple heart, two combat action ribbons, and two good conduct medals.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 4, at Hansen's high school in Kingsley, MI.
