LONDON (DETROIT FREE PRESS) - A Laker will row for Olympic gold Wednesday.
The U.S. women's pairs boat of Sarah Zelenka, an alum of Grand Valley State from Itasca, Ill., and Sara Hendershot, from West Simsbury, Conn., advanced this morning to the A final at Eton Dorney.
They were second in their heat to Great Britain, which covered the course in 6:57.29.
The Americans' time of 6:59.29 was more than six seconds ahead of the third-place boat from Romania. The U.S. time also was faster than both qualifiers from the second heat, won by Australia in a time of 7:01.60.
