GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM)- Grand Rapids city leaders are worried new plans for an old school building could hurt their public school district.
Last year, a developer bought Oakdale Elementary along with two other former schools. The developer told city leaders he wanted to turn the old schools into apartments. But city officials now say he changed plans, selling Oakdale to a charter school operator.
The new charter school would open by fall of 2013, and eventually accept about 750 kindergarten through eighth grade students.
City leaders are concerned the charter school would complete with the district. They will learn more about the plan during a meeting March 1.
