Muskegon Area Robotic Students

MUSKEGON, Mich. (WZZM)- Six weeks of hard work is over for a group of Muskegon County students. The teens are part of a group called Muskegon Area Robotic Students, or M.A.R.S. Members attend Reeths-Puffer or North Muskegon high schools.

Over the last six weeks they've been spending much of their free time after school building a robot able to pick up, carry, and shoot basketballs. It's part of a nationwide program designed to encourage a greater knowledge in engineering and science. Muskegon's team made final adjustments until midnight Tuesday when the time to build robots for competition expired.

The M.A.R.S. robot will compete against other robots starting next week at a competition near Kalamazoo. Teams earn points in state events with the chance to take their robot on to the national finals later in the year.
