LANSING, Mich. (AP) -- A new poll says 45% of likely Michigan voters would support a potential ballot proposal to legalize marijuana use in the state.
The poll of 600 likely voters released Friday was done by EPIC-MRA for the Detroit Free Press and WXYZ-TV. The poll said 50% of respondents were opposed to the idea of legalizing pot and 5% were undecided.
The poll was conducted Jan. 21-25 and has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.
Michigan voters approved marijuana use for medical purposes in 2008. A broader legalization appears to have substantially less support.
The group that wants to legalize marijuana would have to collect about 323,000 valid voter signatures by early July to get the proposal on the November ballot.
