GRAND HAVEN, Mich. (WZZM) -- Sunshine and 40-degree temperatures wiped out the snow in Grand Haven, so the promoters of the city's Winterfest trucked in their own snow.
Nine trucks hauled in manufactured snow from nearby Mulligan's Hollow. The snow was dumped along first street downtown, where human-propelled dog-sled races took off Friday evening.
Organizers expect that with the snow shipped in, and additional natural accumulation overnight, Winterfest will have enough of the "white stuff."
"We've set it up so we don't have to be relying on mother nature", said Winterfest president Kevin Galbavi. "We've been hauling in snow since the beginning of this event, this is our fourth year of doing it, so we usually bring in snow just so we have more."
This weekend's activities will be on-going all day, including the annual "Polar Plunge."
"You can never have too much snow really, it is Winterfest", added Galbavi.
Winterfest wraps up Sunday evening.
