Four students were suspended for one day for wearing clothing and bracelets with the term 'boobies.'
WHITE CLOUD, Mich. (WZZM)- The American Civil Liberties Union is urging the White Cloud School District to uphold free speech after several students were suspended for wearing 'boobie bracelets'.
WZZM 13 News first brought you this story in early December. The district suspended four students for wearing bracelets reading 'I love boobies' and 'peace, love and boobies.' They are designed to increase breast cancer awareness but the district superintendent called them derogatory and disruptive.
The ACLU is urging board members to uphold the students' constitutional rights unless there is evidence the bracelets caused a disruption. The group also says other courts have ruled the bracelets are not lewd or profane and is asking the board to reverse the suspensions.
The White Cloud School Board is expected to discussion the issue at tonight's meeting.
