(DETROIT FREE PRESS) - This doesn't exactly come as a surprise, but Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh was voted the dirtiest player in the NFL in a midseason player poll conducted by the Sporting News.

By a landslide.

Suh, who met with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to discuss his playing habits during the Lions' bye week, got 36 votes -- 27 more than runner-up James Harrison, a Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker.

Suh has been fined three times by the NFL for violent hits on quarterbacks and he has been called for three personal fouls this year.

"Suh. After the whistle, he's throwing guys down, hitting guys, being physical," one unnamed AFC player said in explaining his vote.

Titans cornerback Cortland Finnegan (eight votes), Atlanta Falcons offensive tackle Tyson Clabo (seven) and Steelers receiver Hines Ward (six) rounded out the top five vote getters.

"I'm not necessarily saying dirty but just aggressive and intense," Arizona Cardinals linebacker Daryl Washington said of his vote for Suh. "I'm on the defensive side of the ball. I like the way he plays. I wouldn't mind having a guy like that in front of me."
